Saint Alphonsa

The Canonisation of Saint Alphonsa tok place in Rome on Sunday 12th October 2008 and in his homily Pope Benedict XVI spoke about the new Indian saint. "This exceptional woman was convinced that her cross was the very means of reaching the heavenly banquet prepared for her by the Father. Her heroic virtues of patience, fortitude and perseverance in the midst of deep suffering remind us that God always provides the strength we need to overcome every trial."

The Shrine of Saint Alphonsa at Saint Anne's will be a special place for our brothers & sisters of the church from India to pray and remember their families and the land of their birth. It will also be a special place to ask the help & prayers of Saint Alphonsa for all those who suffer much in this life.

Saint Anne's School

This year for key stage 2 children we have introduced Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction. The children will attend twice a term in year groups and this is a wonderful opportunity for them to experience the powerful prayer of silence in the presence Our Lord. We are reminded of the time last September when our young people met with Pope Benedict in Hyde Park and the Holy Father led them in adoration before the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. " It was a scene in which no words were spoken and no outward actions performed. It didn't inspire headlines or make the evening news bulletins. It was when some 80,000 people knelt in silence before the Blessed Sacrament. This moment presented as clear and beautiful an image of the Church in Britain as we are likely to see in our life-times. There was the Catholic community united in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament of the altar, all squabbles set aside, all eyes focused on the Lord. It was a unique moment of grace during four days where grace flowed abundantly."
